  • Overview

    ION’s Head of Station Operations is responsible for the operations of the company’s group of 67 television stations. The position oversees a team of over 120 operational and engineering field staff across the country, maintaining an organization and infrastructure that best supports the company’s viewership and profitability.

    The ideal leader brings both mature managerial credentials, to oversee a broad nationwide array of people and processes, as well as hands on detail-orientation and energy to effectuate change management and business-driven process improvement objectives.


    • Operational and financial performance of ION’s Station Group, including engineering, support, station operations, lease management and compliance
    • Develop operational and financial metrics for measuring success and progress
    • Understand impact of technology, regulation and business on the TV industry
    • Manage operational decisions and processes, including capital expenditures, vendor agreements and organizational decisions
    • Communicate effectively with corporate management
    • Mentor, develop and challenge existing team members and attracting new talent;
    • Prepare and maintain operational budget, forecasts, plans and reports
    • Develop and manage capital budgets and justifications; partner with Finance to develop budgets, track costs, and provide pre-estimates and post-estimates as requested
    • Work with other departments to provide dashboards on station performance metrics
    • Maintain understanding of relevant regulations (i.e. FCC, workplace, other)


    • P&L responsibility for operations consisting of 20+ team members
    • Analysis of business operations for similarly sized or larger operations
    • Creation of management and financial systems
    • Presentation of complex business and technical topics to corporate management
    • Management of diverse teams
    • Experience working with engineering-based organizations and topics
    • Knowledge of television engineering and the media industry preferred but not required
