  • Overview

    The VP, Legal brings legal leadership, negotiation, and management skills to ION's contract negotiations and administrative needs. This covers ION's broad range of contractual relationships, including real estate, vendors, hardware, software and service providers. The role involves negotiation and drafting of new agreements, as well as administration of existing agreements. The successful candidate will be expected to achieve results and problem-solving in negotiation settings, in addition to alerting management to action items or risk factors arising from ION's portfolio of contracts. 

    Responsibilities

    • Drafting and negotiation of contracts, including tower leases, studio leases, license agreements, service agreements, and purchase agreements 
    • Oversee required real estate due diligence, ensuring timely closings on all transactions
    • Partner with ION station operations and ION executive management personnel on negotiations with landowners and facility owners
    • Provide legal analysis and guidance to other functional groups regarding station operations
    • Provide detailed analysis and guidance to litigation appropriate departments on any matters that result from disputes regarding tower and real estate leases or other licenses and agreements
    • Analyze proposed legislation, regulation or interpretation of law that affects ION station operations

    Qualifications

    • Juris Doctorate Degree with license to practice law in any state required
    • Minimum 5 years of relevant legal experience required; real estate law or commercial transactions strongly preferred; tower or broadcast industry preferred but not required
    • Demonstrated understanding of current law and policy as it relates to telecommunications and real estate law
    • Understanding of transactional law and licensing in telecom/broadcast leasing context
    • Ability to utilize knowledge of the business, economic conditions, and current regulations to successfully negotiate terms and contracts
    • Solid attention to detail in the preparation and review of contracts and agreements with excellent legal drafting skills
    • Strong written and oral communication skills across a broad spectrum of attorney and non-attorney recipients 
    • Ability to effectively manage priorities for self and team to meet business requirements and deadlines in a high volume, time-sensitive environment
    • An independent worker, as well as collaborate with others to utilize resources and knowledge of others in identifying quality solutions
    • Good strategic and problem solving skills to effectively influence decision making in key negotiations
    • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite
